to upgrade or not to upgrade
if you see my postings, i have initial misgiving about stata v8 but upgrade
anyway. worth it. but one way (may be irrational somewhat) i assuaged my
misgiving and to allay any paranoia was to have v7 and v8 reside on my
machine. so far have no need to seek recourse on v7 yet.
list command, not a problem to me on v8 but like ronnie, i don't deal with
>10^5 datasets. even so, according to stata corp., using -l, nocompress-,
should get your lust flying ala v7.
imho.
cheers,
bw

Now that is someone who has really been scared off stata8. On a more
serious
note Lee, apart from issues with Graphs, I am quite impressed with stata
8.
I havent experienced problems with the list command (may be due to the
fact
that I am currently working with small data sets). And yes, the graphs
take
a while, however, imho, when they do come out, they are certainly worth
the
wait (I will quickly add that I dont use graphs often).
In a nutshell, you might wanna reconsider (especially with upgrades coming
up every 2 weeks or so, who know, speed may soon be a problem of the past)
Ronnie
