Many thanks Nick Cox. The problem was that I was running an earlier version
of Stata 8.
I have updated it and everything now seems to be Ok..

I cannot reproduce this. It sounds like
the problem reported earlier.
We need to know whether we are
talking about the same system. I have
executable 30 jan 2003 and ado
files 10 feb 2003 and -update query-
indicates that this is the latest.
Are you using an earlier Stata 8.
