My reading of what Vince Wiggins and Alan Riley
are telling us is that -gph- is not at all discouraged.
Indeed, for a few graphical problems it offers --
right now -- a more direct route to a solution than Stata 8's
graphics.
For the present, -gph- continues to work under version
control and your documentation from some previous
version (e.g. 7) continues to apply.
It is undocumented because at some point within
the lifetime of Stata 8 it will be superseded by
something better which will be consistent
with the new graphics. The developers wants to put
a precise timetable on that.
In any case, it is evident that speeding up the
new graphics is a much higher priority for
users and for Stata Corp.
