There are observations in my data and the variable names are correct. In
fact, the problem only materialises sometimes when I run this command. It
often works again if I exit and then re-open Stata. It therefore seems to be
a technical problem but I thought that someone else might have come across
it too.

My bet is that there are no observations in your dataset at this point,
something that's happened to me a log. if you
di _N
or
describe
you should see if my theory is correct.

Subject: st: gsort
I am having problems with the gsort command and wondered if anyone on the
list can offer advice. The command normally works fine but a couple of times
Stata has supplied the following output:
gsort hid -time
variable __0000YG not found
r(111);
What does this mean?
Best regards
