Thanks to Kit Baum, there is now a new package -qrowname- downloadable from
SSC. It contains 2 programs, -qrowname- and -qcolname-, which extract
matrix row names and column names, respectively, into lists of
double-quoted names returned in the r() results. The programs therefore do
the same as the extended macro functions -roweq-, -coleq-, -rownames-,
-colnames-, -rowfullnames- and -colfullnames-, except that the returned
name lists contain double-quoted names instead of unquoted names. This is
useful if the names contain spaces and/or single quotes, which often
happens if the matrix is an estimation result from a multinomial logistic
regression using -mlogit-, and the multinomial outcome variable has value
labels, which are copied to the row and column equation names. (If the
value labels contain unpaired right double quotes, then even -qrowname-
will fail, but fortunately this does not often happen.)
Best wishes
Roger
