Dear Statalist and Ken,
Sorry for the split emails.
In the nested repeated measures ANOVA, does the formulation on page 46 [R] anova matter given these two situations:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Animal 1 2 3 4 5
/ \ / \ / \ / \ / \
Treatment 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2
/ \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \
Neuron 01-03 04-06 07-10 11-12 13-15 16-18 19-21 22-24 25-27 28-30
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Animal 1 2 3 4 5
/ \ / \ / \ / \ / \
Treatment 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2
/ \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \ / \
Neuron 01-03 01-03 04-06 04-06 07-09 07-09 10-12 10-12 13-15 13-15
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Note that in the first, neurons are different in each treatment in each animal and in the second model neurons from the same animal get both treatments.
