Can I add to the growing wish-list (for Stata 8?):

I would very much like to be able to stop the Results window from jumping to the bottom every time a new result is added when do-ing a long and time-consuming do-file so that I can look at results as they are generated without constantly fighting with the scroll bar. (Similar to one of Fred Wolfe's requests below.)

Context-sensitive help would also be nice - i.e. press a function key when the mouse/cursor is on a Stata command and the relevant help page appears in the viewer - preferably to work even on an abbreviation for the command. If the Genstat people can manage this with their far more limited resources I'm sure it's not beyond the wit of StataCorp.

I'd be very surprised if they aren't already planning many enhancements to the Do-file editor (e.g. syntax highlighting, auto-indent, multiple-undo..). I use Bill Rising's ado-mode for Emacs in preference at the moment, which gives me all this and more. Not sure I'd recommend it unless you already know emacs though. And under Windows I forfeit the ability to -do- the contents of the editor window or the selected text only with a single click.

Roger.

I would gladly see in ... <snip>
I use 2 editors in Windows. Very often I copy (control C) then paste
(Control v) to the Stata editor. But to "do current file" in the Stata
editor I have to pick up the mouse and find the do button. It would be
nice to have another Control + key command to "do current file".
Alternatively, allow a function key to be programmed to do this task.

An additional request, give the Stata editor a memory of more than 1 key
stroke for those of use who have occasionally lost text with a mistyped
key.

Earlier in Stata 7 someone asked whether the review window couldn't
display the the place in the window where it was last clicked rather than
the bottom of the window, or at least have a key that takes you there or
an option to set the window that way.

One last request: a key that takes you to the bottom of the variables
window (rather than always the multi-stroke mouse).
